Below is a statement from the County Commission concerning County offices closing today at 3:00:

The Elmore County Commission is closing County Offices at 3 pm today, (Friday, December 8, 2017 ) due to the winter weather.

The Elmore County Commission is closing the offices early to enable our employees and the public whom we serve to be off the roads before dark.

The Commission also encourages residents to use extreme caution if travel is a necessity, but recommends staying off the roads.

County Wide Clean Up Postponed

Statement from County Commission about County Wide Up:

County Wide Cleanup will not occur on Saturday December 9th as originally scheduled. The event has been postponed until Saturday December 16th. The wintry weather we are experiencing today has hampered Advanced Disposal operations and will create a scenario where servicing our normal countywide cleanup day will be very problematic tomorrow.

Elmore County Commision Message on the Winter Weather

Winter weather is rolling in and the County Commission has released the below statement concerning road conditions and travel:

The Elmore County Commission wants to ensure our residents that public safety and public works personnel are actively inspecting county roads for major issues and plan to continue as the wintry precipitation falls today.

The County would like to remind our residents if travel is necessary to use extreme caution. The wintry precipitation creates wet conditions and can result in conditions can change quickly especially in low lying areas and on bridges. We encourage our residents who do not have to travel to stay off the roads.

Citizens can stay informed through messaging pushed out by our Elmore County EMA, Alabama EMA, the National Weather Service and our local media outlets.

AT&T Announces Fixed Point Wireless Internet Service

AT&T  announced today portions of Elmore County will now have access to their Fixed Wireless Internet service.

The tower/ antenna  is located at the Santuck Fire Department and will serve approximately a  4-5 mile radius area. The signal will be transmitted from this tower to an antenna mounted on the customers house.

This site was paid for in-part by federal grant funds and is a good example of a public / private partnership to fund the needed  infrastructure to provide broadband access to  underserved areas.

The AT&T representative on-site today stated the location was chosen by the FCC based on criteria set and specific data used in each census block within the County. We understand this is not the only location being considered.

For many months the County Commission has been working with the Elmore County Economic Development Authority in an effort to make sure all Broadband Service Providers know Elmore County is a great place to invest in infrastructure and we hope this is the first of many good things to come.

Below is a statement the County Commission released earlier today:

AT&T Expands Access to High Speed Internet in Elmore County

Elmore County residents in the Santuck community now have access to a new Fixed Wireless Internet tower.  This tower will benefit homes and small businesses in rural and underserved locations in Elmore County.

Fixed Wireless Internet service delivers a home internet connection with download speeds of at least 10Mbps and upload speeds of at least 1Mbps. The connection comes from a wireless tower to a fixed antenna on customers’ homes or businesses. These towers are fed by part of the more than 4 million strand miles of AT&T fiber optics that cover Alabama. This is an efficient way to deliver high-quality, high-speed internet to customers living in underserved rural areas.

“The Elmore County Commission applauds AT&T for their continued work to enhance high-speed connectivity for our residents and small businesses,” stated Elmore County Commission Chairman Troy Stubbs.

Commissioner Bart Mercer who is the County’s liaison for economic development efforts said, “I am thankful for AT&T, the Elmore County Economic Development Authority and the County Commission’s efforts to expand broadband access to the citizens of our county. Broadband is an essential service to ensure our residents enjoy a high quality of life and so our business community remains competitive in today’s global economy.”

Should you have any questions about this expansion, please feel free to contact Richie Beyer, Chief Engineer and Operations Officer at [email protected] or 334-398-3325.
