Elmore County EMA Director Accepts Position with Alabama EMA

Below is information the County Commission just released concerning Elmore County Emergency Management Agency Director Eric Jones accepting a position with the Alabama EMA as a Program Coordinator. I am excited that Eric will be able to take his talents and utilize them on a State level. Eric has served the citizens of Elmore County very well for many years and has been a vital part of County government. He has also been a friend for 35 plus years and while I hate to see him leave the day-to-day operations of our county, I am glad he has this opportunity.

Thanks,

Bart

Eric Jones, Elmore County EMA Director, has accepted a position with Alabama EMA as Emergency Management Program Coordinator. Jones’s local government experience played a key role in his selection for and decision to accept the position.

“The Elmore County Commission is so proud of Eric and the fact that he has this opportunity. For someone with his background and expertise in local government emergency management to be able to take his talents to a statewide platform, our state and the various local governments will be gaining a great asset. His departure will leave a void in our county, but Eric has developed a top notch, efficient and effective program for the citizens of our county that we are confident we will be able to maintain for years to come” stated Elmore County Commission Chairman Troy Stubbs.

Eric Jones has mixed emotions as he leaves the stellar program he has poured his life into over the last 14 years. “I will always consider the opportunity to serve my home county as a public servant in EMA/ HS as one of the highest honors and privileges of my life and will miss it greatly” said Jones.

The Elmore County Commission wishes Eric the best in his new role and is excited to see how Eric’s talents can be leveraged at the state level to continue providing Elmore County citizens with an exceptional emergency management program.

Jones will be transitioning into his new role with Alabama EMA in mid August.

National Association of Counties Annual Conference

I attended the National Association of Counties (NACo) annual conference this past weekend in Nashville. Elmore  county is very involved with the Association of County Commissions of Alabama where they focus on State issue affecting counties and NACo serves counties in the same manner on a Federal level.  I serve on the NACo Community Economic and Workforce Development policy steering committee where we met to adopt policies that will be used to by NACo staff to deal with related issues facing counties.

There are many areas of our county that we could improve, I know. However, each time I am with other Commissioners from around the State and especially from around the US, I can tell you we are really blessed in Elmore County. I sat next to one Commissioner in a meeting that was from a mid-west state and to hear her talk about how their commission fights with the city mayors in their county is just foreign to me, and that is just one example. Homelessness in many counties is a huge issue but everyone seemed to have to deal with the opioid epidemic which we face in Elmore county as well.  I was able to learn how other counties are dealing with specific issues we see in Elmore county and learned about some new resources available.

The picture below is where Commissioner Stubbs and I  had the honor of representing Elmore county in the election of the incoming president of  NACo.

Below is information the County Commission office released this morning on the conference.

Thanks

Bart
