The following communities are specifically impacted: From west to east: Titus, Weoka, Central, Eclectic, Kowaliga and Friendship.

Elmore County – The Elmore County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), in coordination with the Elmore County Highway Department, has issued the following statement for all of Elmore County:
RESUMPTION OF TRAVEL STATEMENT: Effective 2:00 p.m., January 18, 2018 conditions have improved and the previous IMPASSABLE TRAVEL ADVISORY for the county-maintained Elmore County roads and bridges, has been lifted. Because officials cannot guarantee the conditions everywhere, drivers are reminded to use caution while traveling. Numerous hazardous travel conditions remain in the eastern portion of the County (east of the Coosa River).
This afternoon Elmore County Highway Department personnel will continue working to clear up issues on the roadways where hazardous travel conditions still exists. There will be numerous locations that travel on roads and bridges may remain slick due the lingering effects of the wintry precipitation, especially during the overnight hours where temperatures will fall back below freezing. During the overnight hours it is likely that water that has ponded on or is draining across roadways will freeze creating occasional icy patches. Please continue to use extreme caution while driving during this next 24 hours.
If you have any questions regarding the above RESUMPTION OF TRAVEL STATEMENT you may contact the Elmore County Emergency Management Agency (EOC) at 334-567-6451.
The sun is rising and hopefully the ice will start melting on roadways.. The below pictures are a good example of what we are seeing on Elmore County maintained roads. A long stretch of roadway will be clear and then in the curve of the road or in a shady area will be a large patch of ice. County crews are working to clear these areas so they will be passable as soon as possible.

Elmore County Highway Department crews are actively inspecting all county roads this morning. Many areas are still exhibiting icy conditions which make travel conditions hazardous.
As soon as we can determine all hazardous conditions are eliminated or mitigated we will lift the impassable road advisory.
Motorists that must be on county roads should utilize due care and lower speeds well below the posted speed limits until the advisory is lifted. Please don’t make our employees and first responders jobs more difficult in getting the roads back to normal conditions.
The portions of Elmore County roads that have been exposed to a brief period of sun today currently are almost free of snow and appear only to be wet which is likely to freeze overnight. The National Weather Service 2:30pm forecast predicts a low temperature of 18 degrees tonight and for our area to not see temperatures above 32 degrees until mid-day Thursday. Due to this, we do not anticipate being able to issue a Resumption of Travel Notice on county maintained roads until temperatures have been above the freezing point long enough for roads to be safe for travel. Roads that continue to be covered by snow will be hazardous to travel on as well.
Please try to stay off the roads and if you must travel do not assume just because no snow is present the road is safe because ice can be present but not as visible like snow.
Below is a statement from the Elmore County Commission concerning County Offices being closed again Thursday 1-18-18 and a statement on the Impassable Travel Advisory previoiusly issued that remains in effect.
County Office Will Be Closed Thursday
The Elmore County Commission has decided to keep County Offices closed tomorrow, (Thursday, January 18, 2018 ) due to the extended impact of the winter weather event. With below freezing temperatures into Thursday morning, travel conditions are not expected to improve in order to issue our resumption of travel notice. The County Commission urges all citizens to utilize extreme caution and understand that our impassable Road advisory will remain in effect into the day on Thursday.
Elmore County Continue in Effect the Impassable Travel Advisory
Elmore County – Due to the continued issues with the snow and icing conditions to include numerous vehicle accidents, stranded motorists and dangerous driving habits seen throughout Elmore County and Central Alabama, the Elmore County Emergency Management Agency, in coordination with the Elmore County Highway Department, has continued the issuance of the following advisory for all of Elmore County:
The IMPASSABLE TRAVEL ADVISORY Remains in Effect for all county-maintained roads and bridges in Elmore County until further notice. Members of the general public are advised that as roads and bridges continue to be IMPASSABLE, all travel should be suspended or delayed. Only emergency vehicles should travel on county roads and bridges until further notice.
Elmore County EMA, in coordination with the Elmore County Highway Department, shall notify the public with a “Resumption of Travel” statement once conditions improve.

Stay warm and be safe.
