Cleanup Elmore County Initiative – Collection Facility Now Open

Cleanup Elmore County Initiative – Collection Facility Now Open

As a part of the Elmore County Commission’s Cleanup Elmore County Initiative, a Collection Facility (CF) has been established at 110 Red Eagle Dr Wetumpka and is now open.

The monthly Countywide Cleanup Day program has allowed for citizens to dispose of non-household garbage that is too large for their paid roll-away trash container for many years. Due to the increased demand by citizens to have the ability to discard items throughout the month and long waits to access the trash truck, a change to the program was needed. Now that the CF is open, it will serve as a replacement for the Countywide Cleanup Day program.

The CF will be open seven days a week with multiple roll off dumpsters present for citizens to dispose of items normally allowed at the previous Countywide Cleanup Days. The CF is designed to complement the citizen paid roll-away container programs in the county. Misuse of the CF by citizens who dump household garbage in lieu of utilizing the paid roll-away container program may be deemed as illegal dumping by the citizen and could result in a change in operations of the CF. The CF will be monitored by cameras to aid in prosecution of abuse of the CF.

Success of this collection facility could result in up to two more sites being planned in the future.

The development of the CF is one element of a comprehensive strategy to combat litter in beautiful Elmore County.

Tornado Watch Issued for Elmore County – Safer Places Now Open

ELCO Commission Logo D4 Square Thumbnail

Due to the Tornado Watch being issued the Elmore County Emergency Management Agency has activated their Safer Places Program.

Please see the information below about Safer Places and how they function during severe weather events:

The purpose of the Safer Place Program in Elmore County is to facilitate the opening of pre-designated areas for citizens seeking a safer place prior to and during severe weather conditions. The Safer Place Program is not intended for long-term opening of a building for a mass care shelter. Instead the intent of the program is to provide a safer place (not safe as in a FEMA approved Safe Room), for individuals to seek shelter during severe weather (tornado, extreme cold or extreme heat). There are no meals or services provided by the host facility. Citizens are encouraged to bring anything they may need to sustain themselves (i.e. food, medicine, etc.). The safer place locations are not advertised as “tornado shelters” or “safe rooms” but as a location of last resort for those who need a safer place to stay prior to and during a severe weather event or during times of extreme cold or heat.

These are the Safer Places locations that are currently open until the Tornado Watch expires:

Shoal Creek Baptist Church.

Elmore County Courthouse – Downtown Wetumpka.

Deatsville Volunteer Fire Department.

Town of Elmore – Fire Station 2 – Baltzer Road.

Town of Elmore – Penny Parkway

Town of Elmore – 1245 AL Hwy 143

First Baptist Church- Eclectic

Eclectic Police Station

Tallassee City Hall

Tallassee Police Department

Millbrook Baptist

Coosada Town Hall

New Home Baptist Church – Titus

St. James Family Worship

Safer Place sites can also be found on our website at Safer Places and click on “I Understand” to go to the map page.
