Elmore County Offices Closed Thursday and a Statement on the Impassable Travel Advisory

The portions of Elmore County roads that have been exposed to a brief period of sun today currently are almost free of snow and appear only to be wet which is likely to freeze overnight. The National Weather Service 2:30pm forecast predicts a low temperature of 18 degrees tonight and for our area to not see temperatures above 32 degrees until mid-day Thursday. Due to this, we do not anticipate being able to issue a Resumption of Travel Notice on county maintained roads until temperatures have been above the freezing point long enough for roads to be safe for travel. Roads that continue to be covered by snow will be hazardous to travel on as well.

Please try to stay off the roads and if you must travel do not assume just because no snow is present the road is safe because ice can be present but not as visible like snow.

Below is a statement from the Elmore County Commission concerning County Offices being closed again Thursday 1-18-18 and a statement on the Impassable Travel Advisory previoiusly issued that remains in effect.

County Office Will Be Closed Thursday

The Elmore County Commission has decided to keep County Offices closed tomorrow, (Thursday, January 18, 2018 ) due to the extended impact of the winter weather event. With below freezing temperatures into Thursday morning, travel conditions are not expected to improve in order to issue our resumption of travel notice. The County Commission urges all citizens to utilize extreme caution and understand that our impassable Road advisory will remain in effect into the day on Thursday.

Elmore County Continue in Effect the Impassable Travel Advisory

Elmore County – Due to the continued issues with the snow and icing conditions to include numerous vehicle accidents, stranded motorists and dangerous driving habits seen throughout Elmore County and Central Alabama, the Elmore County Emergency Management Agency, in coordination with the Elmore County Highway Department, has continued the issuance of the following advisory for all of Elmore County:

The IMPASSABLE TRAVEL ADVISORY Remains in Effect for all county-maintained roads and bridges in Elmore County until further notice. Members of the general public are advised that as roads and bridges continue to be IMPASSABLE, all travel should be suspended or delayed.
